Find a Mastectomy Fitter
What is a mastectomy fitter?
After breast surgery, you may choose to have surgical reconstruction or you may choose to use breast prosthetics. Mastectomy fitting is the practice of addressing the medical conditions of the upper extremities and post-mastectomy surgical outcomes. Mastectomy fitters receive special education and training to meet the needs of patients after mastectomy surgery.
What does a mastectomy fitter do?
Mastectomy fitters carry out the physician's orders by measuring a patient and properly fitting and dispensing an external breast prosthesis, bras, and other related post-mastectomy products. They are trained and certified and are an integral part of the physical and emotional healing for patients. They provide instruction and training on how to properly use and maintain the post-mastectomy products as well as provide ongoing adjustments and revisions when needed. The Cancer Resource Foundation, Inc currently reimburses mastectomy fitters who are certified through the Board of Certification/Accreditation, International (BOC) or American Board of Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics (ABC).
It is important to recognize the high standards that certified mastectomy fitters provide. To assure the highest quality service, we only reimburse certified fitters.
